Today I got a notice from Reddit stating my account has been banned for 3 days, due to my breaking of “Rule 1”
That’s right, the Boring Old Man has been accused of threatening or encouraging violence!
Here’s the question I answered that brought the hammer down:
My answer to said question was “Better Off Dead”, a COMEDY from 1985, starring John Cusack. I swear I must have watched that movie a hundred times as a teenager, and a few more times as an adult for nostalgia. My reply contained absolutely NOTHING aside from the words Better off Dead. Which quickly garnered a response from another user, quoting “I want my 2 dollars”, a running gag throughout the film.
Well, I was on a streak of 543 days, but I guess that puts an end to that.
It’s a shame. Of all social media platforms, I find Reddit the most entertaining. I strictly avoid ALL political and “cultural” topics, I stick to music, cars, entertainment and GenX related subs and have been enjoying it for a while now. But if this is the way things are going on the site with its AI moderator overlords, then I think my time is through there. Like MySpace, it was fun while it lasted.
It’s probably for the best. I need to find more productive ways to spend my time.
